Testimonials (Mighty Math)

Good news! Ben has done very well for his math, scoring 68. He is very happy. Thanks, Madam Heng for the coaching and guidance given to Ben.
Mrs Chee, 31 Oct 2013

I am grateful that I have chosen Mighty Math for my son, Elroy to attend. When he started, he was very poor in his Math, and now Math is his best subject in school. With the help of the teachers, he has improved a lot. Thank you to the Mighty Math teachers for all their effort and patience. Lastly, I highly recommend to my friends and other parents to send their children to Mighty Math.
Angela Tan
Parent of K2 student

Madrid has shown tremendous improvement in Math and has great interest too. He is able to do his Math problems independently. Thanks to the teachers' effort and patience.
Joyce Yeo
Parent of P2 student

Hayden has been enjoying his lessons since Day One. He has improved tremendously in his Math and has gained great confidence when solving problem sums. I reckon that good foundation is essential, as such, I have enrolled my younger son into Mighty Math beginning of the year. I will recommend anyone who has difficulty and doesn't enjoy Math as a school subject before, to attend Mighty Math's program. You will not regret it.

Testimonials (Shadow Services)

We are very fortunate to have Mrs Loh as our son's shadow teacher. She is more than a shadow teacher. She cares for our son and is also a partner in our journey to help our son. Excel Learning Clinic has been a great help in transiting our son into Primary One. Madam Heng and Mrs Loh constantly give us guidance when required, believing that our son can gain independence in school. Our son has made a lot of improvement, from February where he was shadowed by Mrs Loh, till August where he is no longer shadowed in class.

Shadow Services

The Shadow Services for children with special needs is an extra support system for students attending mainstream schools. Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorders/ Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), dyslexia , Global Developmental Disorder (GDD), and other learning challenges will be able to benefit from the shadow service.

The shadow teacher will encourage the student to interact with his/her peers and to participate in class/school activities. In addition, the student will be taught to cope with different social situations that may take place in the class/school environment. The service includes the planning of activities and routines that will allow the student to gain independence in the school environment as quickly as possible.

To help us understand and determine the needs of the student, an assesssment will be done. Based on the assessment, a personalised education plan will be created for the student.

Our shadow teacher helps the student by:
  • Encouraging him/her to interact with the teachers and classmates in the classroom setting;
  • Staying focused in class;
  • Improving self-control and communication with teachers and peers in social situations;
  • Being open and staying positive when approaching new tasks.
Duration & Fee
Ad hoc Basis: a minimum of 3 hours per day
Contract Basis: Monday - Friday (a minimum of 3 months)
Fee: Registration, Orientation, Materials, Deposit, Shadow Teacher, Management (details to be discussed during meeting)
*Note: Timing for contract basis can be adjusted based on individual/school requirements

Mighty Math Programme

Mighty Math is an ability-based enrichment programme that focusses on school related work or tutorial. Emphasis is placed on learning and grasping concepts over passing exams. We understand the importance of catering to the needg and to the understanding of individual child.
The thrust of the Mighty Math approach is concept based learning and application of these concepts. Independence and initiatives in self-learning are valuable for students, and is encouraged.

Mighty Math's Principles
  • Concept building – laying the foundation (not rote learning!!!)
  • Application and problem solving – real world applications
  • Computation Training – Empower the learning
  • Games that make Math Fun Fun Fun!

Mighty Math's Curriculum
  • Understand Concepts and its Applications (not by rote learning)
  • Develops and Enhances Different Thinking Skills and Problem-Solving strategie
  • Creative Exercises That Make Math Fun! (not just worksheets)
  • Suits Pre-School to Primary
  • Covers All Topics Required by Ministry Of Education
Mighty Math's System
1.     Mighty Math Foundation Building
This foundation aims to build a solid foundation for its students in terms of arithmetic skills through conceptual understanding and its application rather than blind mechanical finger counting or rote learning. When students have an excellent foundation to rely on, learning complex processes in the higher primary will be much easier.

2.    Mighty Math Heuristics Approach
This approach exposes it’s students to the 6 main areas of problem-solving as required by the MOE syllabus:
  • Use of Diagram/Model
  • Make a list
  • Look for Pattern(s)
  • Work backwards
  • Use of Before/After Concepts
  • Guess & Check
  • “Heuristics” strategies for problem solving
  • Different levels of thinking skills: Logical reasoning, understanding patterns and changes, visualization and spatial reasoning.
3.    Mighty Math Exam Preparation
Students will have a chance to try past exam papers. The aim is for students to be familiar with exam formats, as well as understand how questions can be taken on different forms. Questions will be explained to students so that they can learn, understand from mistakes, and progress.

Mighty Math's Main Strength:
The use of manipulatives in teaching mathematics is the main strength of the Mighty Math system. Long-term use of manipulatives has a positive effect on student achievement by allowing students to use concrete objects to observe, model, and internalize abstract concepts.

Manipulatives not only allow students to construct their own cognitive models for abstract mathematical ideas and processes, it also provides a common language with which to communicate these models to the teacher and other students.

In addition to the ability of manipulatives to aid directly in the cognitive process, manipulatives have the additional advantage of engaging students and increasing both interest in and enjoyment of mathematics.

Students who are presented with the opportunity to use manipulatives report that they are more interested in mathematics. And, long-term interest in mathematics translates to increased mathematical ability.

We use the following manipulatives:

1. Space Cube (SC) for learning counting and place-value exercises

2. Space Cube Activity Board (CAB) for learning place-value and multiplication exercises

3. Number Bond Balance (NBB) for learning NBs and four functions (+ , - , x , ÷) exercises

4. Tangrams for learning shapes and patterns

5. Number Track for learning number sequences

6. Student Clock for learning to read time

7. Measuring Balance for learning weight measurement and volume

8. Math Mirror for learning mirror imagine and symmetry of shapes

9. Linking Base Ten for learning place values, decimal system, area and volume
10. Linkable Abacus for learning place values, addition and subtraction

11.     Number Sticks for learning counting, sorting and comparing
